The BJP government residing in Karnataka has passed the Karnataka Religious Structures Protection bill on 21st September in order to protect the demolition of religious structures in the Karnataka state of Supreme Court order following the supreme court orders.

The Karnataka Religious Structures Protection bill was being passed and brought to the table after the massive protest that erupted after the demolition of a temple which was located in the Mysuru region of Karnataka.The demolition of a temple in Karnataka has made the district administration and state government stand against each other. After the overnight destruction of temple which was situated in the Mysuru region, many hindu organizations started to protest against the decision. The protest was also joined by the Mysuru-Kodagu BJP MP Pratap Simha.The state government of BJP came up with a statement that the district administration has misread the supreme court orders and are selectively targeting the Hindu temples.

The bill was passed in the assembly after a heated debate between the ruling party and the opposition. While introducing the Karnataka Religious Structures Protection Bill, 2021, in the Assembly, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said, “The bill is aimed at protecting religious constructions on a public place constructed before the date of commencement of this Act, in order to protect communal harmony and not hurt the religious sentiments of the public.” The war of words followed between the present Chief Minister of Karnataka Basavaraj Bommai and the leader of the opposition Siddaramaiah
