Around 11000 loudspeakers were removed from religious places and the volume of 3500 others was set to permissible limits across Uttar Pradesh over the past four days , said senior police officials on Wednesday.

Uttar Pradesh Government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered for removal of illegal loudspeakers from religious places in the state. It also being said that loudspeakers flouting the noise limit standards will be removed.Police stations have been instructed to make a list of all such places and send their reports to the Home department by April 30. The divisional commissioners from every district will send the reports.

Few days ago Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said that permission would be required to use loudspeakers at religious places from now on. she also said that the sound of the loudspeakers must not come out of the premises.

Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi told PTI that “The order to remove illegal loudspeakers from religious places in the state was issued on Saturday. A compliance report (from the districts) in this regard has been sought by April 30. The police have been directed to establish conversations with the religious leaders, and ensure the removal of the unauthorised loudspeakers by co-ordinating with them,”.

Prashant Kumar who is the ADG informed that ” a statewide drive is being undertaken to remove loudspeakers from religious places and set their volume within permissible limits. As part of this exercise, 10,923 loudspeakers were removed and the volume of 35,221 others was reduced to permissible limits so far,”. The officials stated that most the loudspeakers removed were from Lucknow (2,395) and Gorakhpur (1,788) zones.
