On Thursday, Hardeep Singh Puri, the union minister for housing and urban affairs, declared that more than 1,100 Rohingyas would be relocated to EWS apartments in the Bakkarwala neighborhood of Delhi.
Additionally, the former IFS official stated that the Rohingya refugees would receive a special ID card from the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
India has always welcomed those who have sought refuge in the country. In a landmark decision all #Rohingya #Refugees will be shifted to EWS flats in Bakkarwala area of Delhi. They will be provided basic amenities, UNHCR IDs & round-the-clock @DelhiPolice protection. @PMOIndia pic.twitter.com/E5ShkHOxqE

He further added hitting out at those who spoke against this decision mentioning the Citizenship Amendment Act, “Those who made a career out of spreading canards on India’s refugee policy deliberately linking it to #CAA will be disappointed. India respects & follows United Nations Refugee Convention 1951 & provides refuge to all, regardless of their race, religion or creed.”
While a sudden burst of Rohingya-prem can’t be explained till now, what about the minorities of Islamic nations who have been settled in the capital? For more than eight years, Hindu refugees from Pakistan have been residing in the Adarsh Nagar slum in North Delhi in dreadful conditions.
According to a report, only piles of trash, dirt, drain water streaming down the dark and narrow passageways, smelly mud swarming with flies, mosquitoes, maggots, and stray filthy pigs add to the misery of Pakistani Hindu immigrants in the capital.
There is no running water or power supply in the camp. The only “facility” is a public restroom, however, there is no water supply. People must therefore rely on the regular water tankers for all of their needs. Knowing that these Hindu immigrants must wait in line for hours before receiving water, which is probably not even enough to slake their thirst, one can only imagine how dirty the common restrooms must be as a result of the lack of water.
Meanwhile, the Centre on October 21, 2021, rejected a plea asking for electrical connections for these 200 Hindu migrant families. The Centre stated that they were living in “illegal camps” in North Delhi, and their request should be rejected.
It is horrifying to think about how miserable these Hindu refugees’ living situations have been. These 2,000 migrants, including children as young as five, are dealing with heinous circumstances and difficulties on a daily basis.
Where the central government had to look after the situation of Hindus for which they were voted to power, there they are providing EWS flats to Rohingyas with police protection.
