At a rally in 2014, Mulayam Singh Yadav, a former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and SP supremo once declared that capital punishment for rape is always wrong. Boys make such types of mistakes. Such type of insensitive remark was criticized by the opposition and women’s rights activists. Recently, Hemant Soren, the chief minister of Jharkhand, showed signs of the same flawed thinking.

Hemant Soren calls the district of Dumka his home where two recent events there have shocked the entire nation. The first victim, Ankita, was burned to death; in the second, a Hindu girl was abducted, raped, and killed; her body was then hanged from a tree. In both incidents, minor girls suffered abuse. However, these two are mere “incidents” in the eyes of Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

Jharkhand CM made a highly insensitive remark on the case and stated that these types of “incidents happen.” He added, “Where do they not occur?”

Armaan Ansari first impregnated a minor girl, 14, before killing her and hanging her body from a tree. Hemant Soren may not have said a single word of sympathy for such brutality, but CM Saheb made a nonsensical comment while exceeding all bounds of decency.

Consider how dishonorable it is that two young girls from the same constituency are murdered within a 10-day period, but neither the MLA nor any of his representatives attend them. However, when BJP leaders offer their condolences to Ankita’s family, they have plenty of time to plan an attack on those politicians.

How can a chief minister of a state make such terrible expressions when it comes to the security of the daughters of the state? Who, after all, is in charge of guarding the daughters?
