The Iranian Revolution, also known as the Islamic Revolution was a series of events that culminated in the overthrow of the Pahlavi dynasty under Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, and the replacement of his government under the rule of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, a leader of one of the factions in the revolt.

After the overthrow of the Shah, Iran was mercilessly Islamized due to which the Mullahs along with the revolutionary guards started ruling Iran. They imposed a strict and radical version of Islam.

For e.g. to name a few:

  1. The new government forced women to leave the workforce, forced closing of childcare centers, enforced full Islamic dress in public places, and prevented women from studying in 140 fields in higher education.
  2. The new constitution created a religious government based on Khomeini’s vision of velāyat-e faqīh (Persian: “governance of the jurist”). All moderates were either exiled or  executed.
  3. All major institutions came under the direct control of the Clergy or the Mullahs.

However, there have been protests against the clerical rule right from beginning. Iranian people have continually revolted against the regime time and again in 1999, 2003, 2009, 2011, 2017, 2020 and finally in 2020.

The people are protesting against what is mentioned in Holy Quran and Shariat. For e.g. the women are protesting against Hijab. They are protesting against Mullahs.

Even slogans like “Allah is not an Iranian God but an Arabic God” were heard during protests.

Why are the reasons why Iranians are protesting against the basic principles of Islam?

  1. The women are burning Hijab and cutting their hair. They have started to feel that this is a sign of repression .
  2. The people want Mullahs to go? Why? They want to free themselves from the overwhelming influence of the Clergy class. Clergy always tries to prevents change and modernization. Iranians want change.
  3. The Kahmmenis have propped up many terrorist  groups across middle-east and waging Jihad which is a prescribed duty as per Islam. BUT, this drains money from the Govt. coffers and hence less spending for public welfare. People want this to be stopped.
  4. Iran is a theocracy with the Kahmmeni having lot of power. He has power to veto the Parliament, President, Judiciary and every decision. He being appointed for life doesn’t allow change to happen. Kahmmeni himself represents the Mullahs.
  5. Such kind of closed, dictatorial system results to rampart corruption and zero economic growth. This in turn results to employment and inflation. People are fed up with that.

Same is a situation in most (read all) Islamic countries. All Islamic countries are ruled by theocracies who follow a strict and true version of  Islam.

Hence, it is just a matter Iranian regime collapses which will will result to succumbing of other regimes to popular protests.

Will the collapse of the Islamic regimes result to the fall of Islam? I think so. But time will tell.
