After Islamists vandalized the houses of ordinary people to avenge the alleged ‘blasphemy’ by ex-BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, the Bethuadahari Business Society called for a three-day strike on Sunday (June 12).
“It is hereby advised that today miscreants set fire to various shops and dwellings of normal people,” the group wrote in a letter. “They have wrecked the motorcycles of Bethuadahari Business Society members and created a panic atmosphere.”
The letter further added, “The Bethuadahari Bazar will remain closed for a period of 72 hours as a mark of protest. We demand the immediate arrest of the miscreants involved in the violence. If they are not nabbed during this period, then, we will intensify our protests.”
The Bethuadahari Business Society has called for a 72 hour strike, protesting how the mob stoked “Terror” (as they’ve termed it) & demanding the arrest of the culprits. If Administration fails to act, they would scale up their agitation.

BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari took to Twitter questioning the media on its biased approach for not showing the Islamists burning down the area. “What the Media covered: Rioters pelted stones & vandalized a local train in Bethuadahari Railway Station in Nadia district,” he had tweeted.
“What the Media didn’t cover: The mob looted & vandalized hundreds of shops & homes at Bethuadahari. Motorcycles were burnt. People were terrorized,” Adhikari informed.
On Sunday, June 12th, a march was organized in Nadia against Nupur Sharma’s remarks on Prophet. The march quickly devolved into violence, with Islamists vandalizing stores en way to the Bethuadahari market. As a result, for several hours, the national highway 34 was closed.
Despite the presence of cops on the scene, they were unable to contain the situation. The nearby Bethuadahari train station was vandalized by a group of Islamists. The mob also threw stones at the Krishnanagar Lalgola local train, which caused alarm among the passengers.
As a result, train operation on the Lalgola section of the route was disrupted. On the Krishnanagar-Rampur line, train service resumed after nearly an hour and a half.
