Iliyas, a 48 year old Muslim cleric of a mosque in Harsh Vihar, Northeast Delhi, has been arrested for raping a 12 year old minor girl in the mosque on May 30th as reported by the Hindustan Times. The 12 year old minor girl had gone to fetch water from the mosque when she was lured and raped by the cleric in the mosque.

According to the police, the minor girl’s her parents had asked her to fetch some water from the mosque in the night as there was no water in the house. When the girl went in the mosque she was allegedly lured by the cleric and he forced himself on the young minor girl.

The police further stated that when the girl returned home late they asked her the reason for the same, that was when the girl narrated the entire story of horror endured by her. On hearing about the despicable crime, the family along with neighbours went to the mosque to confront Liyas. On seeing them Iliyas ran away from the rear door.

The agitated locals then gathered at the mosque and informed the police. The police pacified the outraged local people and the young minor girl was sent for medical examination and counselling.

A case of rape was registered under relevant sections of the IPC and POCSO Act. Apolice team arrested the Muslim cleric from Loni after technical investigation and gathering human intelligence.
