The Kolkata Police have discovered a factory at Eco Park in North 24 Parganas where fake Indian currency notes (FICN) of lesser values, including 50 and 100, were being made.

After an operation over the last two days, police have detained two persons and seized counterfeit notes worth more than $100,000.

“FICN ranging in denomination from 50 to 500 were seized.” While one note in the denomination of 500 was seized, at least 900 notes in the denomination of 100 were also seized. “At least 20 notes worth 50 were also confiscated,” a senior official with the Kolkata Police’s special task unit stated.

An STF unit intercepted two people – Changez Alam (36) and Afzal Ali (22) – from north Kolkata on Tuesday night after receiving a tip, and counterfeit notes totalling $7,500 were seized from them.

Following interrogation, Alam took the officials to a rented property near Eco Park in North 24 Parganas, where they had established a factory to produce counterfeit notes. The hideout yielded FICN valued around $21,000.

The police also seized a laptop, pen drives, wooden frames, vice, colours and chemicals for screen painting security threads and images on notes, knives, cellotapes, coloured films, and other goods from the hideout, including bond papers and stamp papers.
