At the Free India High School, an Urdu-medium institution in Titagarh, West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, a massive bomb exploded on Saturday, September 17. When the explosion happened, classes were still in session at around 11 AM. The management promptly called the police. The bomb’s explosion on the school’s terrace was noticed.
According to reports, a portion of the school’s roof was destroyed by the explosion. When Titagarh police came, they scattered blast-related debris throughout the area. Aashish Mourya, the DC for Central Zone Barrackpore, has stated that no one was hurt in the explosion, but an investigation has been opened.
“A bomb explosion occurred. No one was harmed. The investigation has begun. Residents will be questioned and CCTV footage will be checked. Forensic teams would be called, if necessary,” he continued.
Zaleel Akhtar, vice-president of Titagarh Municipality, asserted, “When I walked to the school, I witnessed a bomb explode on the steps,” Mourya continued. The device seems to have been hurled from a nearby building.
A teacher at the Urdu school named Khalid Tayyab reported, “The blast was really loud. At the moment, we were in the staff room. We saw smoke rising from the school and at first, we thought a bomb had gone off outside.
As soon as we arrived at the terrace, we noticed that there was rubbish all over the place. The explosion may have been a major accident if it had happened during lunch. Even if such occurrences are common in Titagarh, an explosion caused by a bomb at a school is a first of its sort.
According to reports from Sunday, September 18, the police have detained four people in relation to the explosion. Around midnight, the accused, who were between the ages of 18 and 19, were captured in the Kamarhati and Titagarh regions. “By questioning them, we are attempting to investigate every angle. According to a representative of the Barrackpore Police Commissionerate, one of the arrested people is from Kamarhati, while the others are from Titagarh.
The officer continued, “Preliminary investigations have shown that the suspects originally intended to detonate the homemade bomb at the school gate but changed their minds when they discovered the area was congested.”
He added that the accused had ascended to the roof of a neighboring building to carry out the deed. Three of those detained are previous students of the institution. According to the accusations, the main reason for this incident was personal animosity between the accused and a few other school students. The police conducted a search of the accused’s home and discovered ten unfinished explosives inside.
Even school pupils cannot feel safe in Bengal, lamented BJP national vice-president Dilip Ghosh in response to the predicament. “The state’s education sector has started on its final leg during Trinamool Congress leadership… Guns and bombs are being carried around by young people. since West Bengal has no employment opportunities, he noted.
