Assam’s chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, revealed on Tuesday that the FIR filed by Kumar Jaimangal, a Congress MLA from Jharkhand, in which he claimed that the three Congress MLAs who had been detained had persuaded him to see Sarma, was false. Biswa while revealing that took a jibe saying, “Congress requesting Ottavio Quattrocchi to file a case against Bofors.”

Reportedly, Jaimangal submitted a complaint against Congress MLAs Irfan Ansari, Rajesh Kachchap, and Naman Bixal Kongari, and Jharkhand Police responded by filing an FIR. According to Jaimangal’s accusation, the three MLAs summoned him to Kolkata to meet the Assam chief minister, who was reportedly plotting to overthrow the JMM-led government in Jharkhand. According to Jaimangal, the MLAs promised him Rs 10 crores and a ministerial position in the future government if he helped overturn the current administration.

Jaimangal further claimed in his allegation that imprisoned MLA Ansari had told him that Sarma was engaged in efforts to topple the government with the approval of “high BJP political party figures sitting in Delhi.” He said that he had asked the authorities to get involved because he did not want to participate in “the unconstitutional, unlawful, and frankly criminal actions.”

According to reports, the West Bengal Police discovered a significant sum of cash with the three MLAs’ vehicles on Sunday, leading to their detention. After that, Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam,  who left Congress in 2015, claimed that although he kept in touch with the leaders of the Congress, they were never indulged politically.

Assam Minister Piyush Hazarika tweeted about the aforementioned FIR while sharing some pictures on Tuesday and referred to the claims made by Jharkhand Congress MLA Jaimangal as unfounded.

Hazarika further mentioned that Jaimangal has been constantly meeting CM Sarma. He reiterated that the Congress MLA’s FIR was a fabrication and added that Jaimangal “shall face the law for leveling a dishonest charge against the Chief Minister of Assam and against those tribal MLAs.”

At Ranchi’s Agora police station, an FIR based on Jaimangal’s claim was filed on Sunday. The police have cited Sections 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act (bribery of a public servant) and Section 9 of the Prevention of Corruption Act (bribery of a public servant by a commercial organization), Section 171B of the Representation of the People Act (bribery), and Sections of Criminal Conspiracy of the Indian Penal Code.
