The victim’s relatives made a complaint against the four suspects, Mohammed Bilal, Mohammed Nihal, Gulab Rabanni (also known as Gora), and Hilal, at the Nanpur police station. So far, two of the suspects have been taken into custody and placed under arrest.
The main suspect is still evading. To find him as soon as possible, the police are searching for potential hiding places.
Shockingly, police have ruled out a communal component of the incident and asserted that Jha’s support for the former BJP spokesperson was unrelated to the murderous attack on him.
Station House Officer (Nanpur police) Vijay Kumar Ram explained the situation to Hindustan Times by saying, “For some unexplained reasons they started fighting with one other. Gulab Rabbani alias Gora, the suspect, suddenly stabbed Jha from behind.”
He further added, “The reason behind the scuffle between the two groups was over cigarette smoke on Jha’s face at the roadside stall, leading to an immediate argument. During the investigation, it was found that the matter was not related to Nupur Sharma.
The victim’s family claims that the Nanpur police purposefully omitted the identity of Nupur Sharma in order to downplay the case’s racial undertones.
Ankit Kumar Jha reportedly visited a nearby paan shop. There, the accused started verbally harassing him while also blowing cigarette smoke in his face. Seriously injured Ankit Kumar Jha told Dainik Bhaskar, “I was watching my social media status of Nupur Sharma on the phone when one of them stabbed me from behind.”
