Iranian women are coming out in order to protest against the hijab which is mandatory to wear as per Iran’s rule. Women protested against the Hijab and Chastity day by removing hijabs in public. They posted videos of themselves publicly removing their hijabs on July 12 which is celebrated as the National Day of Hijab and Chastity in Iran.

Social media platforms saw the footage as women and, in some cases, some men too voiced their disagreement to the Iranian law requiring women to cover their heads in public. In some instances, women were seen throwing away scarves and shawls that they had left on the ground. Without a hijab, several women were spotted in businesses and on public transportation, and others blogged about their own experiences or offered their opinions on the hijab. As per as the Iran’s calender, 12th of July is Hijab and Chastity Day. For a week, government institutions and agencies are required to promote this.Previously, several women’s rights activists and civil activists had asked male and female Iranian citizens to show their opposition to the mandatory hijab in the country on the National Day of Hijab and Chastity. Following this call, videos and images started appearing on social media networks on the morning of July 12. After the 1979 Islamic Revolution, hijab became compulsory in public for Iranian women and girls over the age of 9 and many women have so far protested against the law.
