‘The court’s decision on Gyanvapi is a violation of the Places of Worship Act’
The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) on Tuesday claimed that the district court’s decision in the Gyanvapi case is a clear violation of the Places of Worship Act, 1991. In a statement, the CPI(M) said any misinterpretation of the law by a section of the judiciary would have dire consequences as the law was meant to prevent something. The Left has alleged that it is no secret that the BJP distorts history to target minority communities.
He said that the 1991 Act was made to uphold the national interest of communal harmony. Varanasi District Judge A.K. Vishvesh’s court, while dismissing the petition of the Muslim side challenging the maintainability of the Gyanvapi Shringar Gauri case, had said that the matter is not barred in terms of the Places of Worship Act and the Waqf Act, so it will continue hearing the matter. The next hearing of the case will be on September 22.
