The FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act) license of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation has been cancelled. This decision has been taken by the Central Government. The Ministry of Home Affairs has canceled the license of Rajiv Gandhi Foundation and Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act. Rajiv Gandhi Foundation has been accused of misappropriation of foreign funding.

Rajiv Gandhi Foundation is an NGO affiliated to the Gandhi family. Founded on 21 June 1991, the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation is chaired by Sonia Gandhi. The other trustees are Dr Manmohan Singh, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, P Chidambaram, Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Suman Dubey and Ashok Ganguly.

According to sources in the Ministry of Home Affairs, a committee was constituted in July 2020 and on the basis of its report, it has been decided to cancel the license of the foundation. BJP has been continuously accusing this foundation of foreign donations. The Rajiv Gandhi Foundation was accused of taking funds from China and it was said that the rules were ignored in it.

On this decision of the government, BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya said that it seems that this institution was formed so that money can be raised and it can be used for the convenience of the Gandhi family. Through this foundation, the Congress Party organizes various programs across the country. It is believed that after this decision, CBI and ED can investigate this matter. After this action of the central government, the organization will not be able to take foreign donations.
