North East Diaries – Temple Vandalised in Meghalaya and no one cares!

This is not new for the people of North East and the incidents usually go unreported. Hindu temples and religious institutions are often targeted in order to instill a fear in the minds of the people and this has been going on forever.
On 16th of August 2020, the Marok Ancholic Mahamaya Mandir in Merengapara village, West Garo Hills, Meghalaya was desecrated by local miscreants. The idols in the temple have been broken and the temple compound vandalised.
Per the latest reports, no arrests have been made so far and the investigation seems to be in progress. The authorities have appealed to the citizens to refrain from spreading any misinformation or fall prey to any rumors.
Most likely this will again be passed off as acts of some petty miscreants and the angle of hatred against religious minorities will be brushed under the carpet…
The scanty coverage by North-East India’s oldest English-language daily newspaper shows how no one cares.
