Farmers in Punjab have once again been prompted to protest against CM Bhagwant Mann’s government, due to the fact that they have been defrauded. Farmers in the Baba Bakala Sahib area of Amritsar district have been stranded on railway tracks since Friday. Farmers are enraged because they did not receive the price for their sugarcane harvests this time. The paths of all trains had to be adjusted due to the farmers’ takeover of the railway tracks.
While officers from Bhagwant Mann’s Aam Aadmi Party AAP government are attempting to persuade them, they have refused to agree. Farmers had already organised a large campaign against the Mann government prior to this.
Farmers protesting on the railway track claim that the Punjab government has failed to deliver on its promises. They claim that he had previously conducted a sit-in at Beas station over sugarcane prices. The government had pledged to pay the sugarcane price in 45 days at the time. Two months have passed, and Rana Sugar Mill has still not paid the farmers’ debts.
Railways have resumed running trains between Amritsar and Delhi from Tarn Taran instead of Baba Bakala Sahib due to farmer protests. On this route, 9 trains ran till Friday evening. Many trains may have to be cancelled if the unrest continues for a long period, as per the railway sources.
Let us inform you that the Aam Aadmi Party, which won the Punjab polls by making all of the promises, has failed to deliver on them. Arvind Kejriwal, the party’s leader and Delhi’s mayor, had stated that once the government is formed, the concerns of farmers will be resolved and that no single farmer will be allowed to commit suicide; yet, more than 20 farmers have already committed suicide.
At the same time, a group of farmers marched to Chandigarh in the past to demand that their 11-point requests be met. Later, in a meeting with farmer representatives, CM Bhagwant stated that he will take steps by recognising the majority of their demands.
