Recently with the raids on IAS officers of Jharkhand government we noticed that the Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren’s officers like raking in cash, but some of them are now showing other interests as well. In this episode, a terrible report from the Khunti region of Jharkhand has come to light. The Khunti district’s SDM, Syed Riyaz Ahmed, has drawn criticism for reportedly abusing a female intern. Since then, an FIR has been filed against SDM Syed Riyaz Ahmed alleging sexual harassment at the Khunti district police station.

The victim, who was from Himachal Pradesh, reportedly travelled to Khunti for academic purposes. In the Deputy Commissioner’s office, the victim was receiving training.

She met Syed Riyaz Ahmed, the SDM of Khunti, during the training. Syed Riyaz invited the student to his house under the pretence of a party and made an effort to sexually assault the victim while intoxicated. SDM was attempting to molest the student while speaking obscenities. She managed to escape there and file a complaint at the police station right after that. The police have applied sections 376D, 376A, 323, 504, and 506 of the IPC and the POCSO Act.
The police detained the SDM and hauled him in for interrogation. The complainant is a rural development student at IIT Mandi. Prior to this, after a month-long internship at an NGO in Jharkhand, she travelled to Khunti for another internship.

Here, the BJP, the opposition party, has criticised the deteriorating law and order under Hemant Soren’s administration. When criticising the Hemant Soren administration, BJP State Spokesperson Pratul Shahdev claimed that the victim will receive justice by having this situation thoroughly probed. Meanwhile, others claim on social media that if the state’s security system’s employees are the only ones to commit crimes, who will maintain law and order in the state?
Let us inform you that Syed Riyaz Ahmed is an IAS officer from the 2019 batch. The wife of Syed Riyaz Ahmed is an officer who is currently employed in the Chhattisgarh district of Korba as an SDM.
