Today Twitter is barged with comments under the hashtag ‘Boycott Tandav’ over a scene allegedly portraying Hindu Gods in poor light. The objections are raised over a scene where one of the protagonists played by Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub was apparently playing a character modelled on Lord Ram, holding a stick with what looked like the Trishul at a college theatre festival.

The host talks about the character’s social media following, and how he should tweet or post pictures to garner his followers. This is followed by the much controversial ‘Azaadi’ chants by the audiences. The visual was from the first episode of the series.

Netizens have expressed their displeasure over the makers ‘using gods and dharma’ for ‘Entertainment.’ Many of them conveyed their thoughts and anger by giving the series one star on IMDb, and proudly posted screenshots from their handles.

BJP leader Kapil Mishra has demanded to ban the series. The web series has evoked criticism in social media for offending religious sentiments of Hindus.Supporting the trend on social media, the BJP leader also tweeted demanding to ban Tandav saying it is anti-Dalit and full of communal hatred against Hindus.

He added the hashtag #BanTandavNow and asked users to write to I&B Minister Prakash Javadekar voicing their concerns over the show and also mentioned the email ID of the IB minister in which users can send their inputs against the show.

The critics have alleged that the makers are trying to “mock” and “target” the Hindu deity as #BoycottTandav is still trending.
