To address in war footing the acute shortage of supply in medical Oxygen due to surging Covid cases, the Prime Minister’s Office, has announced today that the PM Cares Fund has given in-principle approval for the allocation of funds for setting up 551 PSA Medical Oxygen Generation Plants in government hospitals in district headquarters across the country.

These dedicated medical oxygen plants in the public health facilities at district level would ensure uninterrupted supply of oxygen to the government hospitals at local level.

The central government has taken a slew of measures to overcome the shortage of Oxygen supply for critical Covid-19 patients in the second wave of the pandemic.

The central government had earlier this year released Rs.201.58 crores from the PM Cares Fund for establishing 162 dedicated PSA (Pressure Swing Absorption) medical Oxygen plants.

The proposed 551 Medical Oxygen Plants are to be operationalised as soon as possible to boost the capacities of total Oxygen requirements during the national crisis.

Dedicated Oxygen Express Trains are being run by the Ministry of Railways to transport Oxygen from States having surplus Oxygen to deficient ones. DRDO has also pitched in establish Oxygen plants in Gujarat, UP and several other States to ramp up medical Oxygen supply in the country.
