For a long time, illegal Bangladeshis and criminal Bangladeshis have drawn to Assam and the North East. Jihadi groups from Bangladesh have recently started using the northeastern region of India as a breeding ground for Jihad. State police have dismantled a number of Jihadi activity modules with ties to Bangladesh. Faizal Ahmed, a Bangladeshi terrorist who was on the most wanted list, was recently detained by Kolkata police in Bangalore after being the prime suspect in the 2015 murder of Sylhet blogger Ananta Vijoy Das. Bangladesh has sentenced him to death for the murder of blogger Ananta Vijoy Das. According to police authorities, the terrorist Faizal fled after killing the blogger Ananta Vijoy in 2015 and was last seen in Silchar, Assam. He crossed the border into Assam at Karimganj in southern Assam and started working as a teacher in a nearby madrassa. Faizal Ahmed organised a sleeper cell for the terrorist group Ansarullah Bangla Team while he was living in Silchar (ABT).

Assam police recently dismantled a sizable ABT module in the state’s Barpeta region and detained at least 16 Jihadis from various locations. The ABT is also known as the Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent’s Bangladesh chapter (AQIS). What’s even stranger is that terrorist Faizal Ahmed managed to obtain an Indian passport and driving licence while he was living in Silchar, Assam. Lengpui in Mizoram was listed as Faizal’s home address. He received an Indian driver’s licence and an Indian passport from the Passport Seva Kendra in Guwahati using this fictitious address and forgeries. Faizal moved to Bengaluru and resided there after getting an Indian passport under the name Sahid Mazumdar. On 1st July Kolkata STF arrested Faizal from Bengaluru on an intimation of Bangladesh police. He was brought to Kolkata for further investigation. Republic TV reported that Assam police would also seek to interrogate Faizal in Kolkata police custody. Two people were detained by Assam police on Thursday for their involvement in jihadi activity in the Barpeta district. Mukaddaz Ali Ahmed and Safiqul Islam have been detained. From Mukaddaz Ali Ahmed’s possession, the police seized three homemade explosives, three detonators, and three explosive Neogene. Safiqul Islam, who was arrested, worked for the JMB, a terrorist group located in Bangladesh. Due to a lack of evidence, he escaped after being detained in 2019. But after evading capture by the authorities, he returned to Jihadi activity.
