The effect of the ongoing tension between Russia and Ukraine is clearly visible on Europe. Germany, Italy, France and other European countries are in trouble due to the stoppage of gas supply from Russia.

In Italy, more people are coming to eat at the food bank, which means that unemployment has increased and income has decreased. There has been an appeal to reduce the running time of air conditioners in Germany.

The government is contemplating to do gas rationing and start coal based power stations. In France, President Emmanuel Macron has appealed to people to reduce their electricity consumption and save gas. All this is happening in the midst of unexpectedly rising temperatures in Europe.

Russia slashed its gas supply to Europe by half at the end of June. Since then there has been chaos in Europe. Analysts are considering Russia’s move as a response to sanctions imposed by the European Union.

Since July 11, Russia has completely cut off Europe’s gas supply to repair the Nord Stream One pipeline. After maintenance and repair, the supply is to start from 21. But Russia has made it clear that due to technical reasons, supplies are not expected to normalize until September.

Germany has been enraged by this statement from Russia and has called it inhuman conduct. Because this will give a major blow to Germany’s economy, which is coming back on track after COVID-19.

By the way, signs of recession have started in Europe. The euro is at a 20-year low against the dollar. Inflation is at a record high of 8.6 percent. Gas and electricity have become very expensive. The lack of gas has reduced the production of factories. This has made it difficult for people to lead a normal life. Difficulties may increase in colder weather.
