Standing among the top five economies of the world, India under the efficient leadership of Modiji is marching steadily to become a developed country of the world. A developed country needs a modern Parliament fully equipped with all the modern facilities.

At the end of 1911 when King George Fifth officially announced the shift of capital from Kolkata to Delhi, immediate need was felt for an official building to serve as a headquarter. Sir Edward Lutyens and Sir Herbert Baker did the work of designing the existing Parliament structure. The construction work was started in 1921 and completed in 1927.This grand building has seen many Historical events, the formation of Constitution, transfer of powers from British Raj to Government of India.

Major decisions like Triple Talaq, Anti Dowery bill etc. have been taken in this monument. Definitely the monument values a lot for the country. But the future requirements like inadequate space, modern technology etc. generates the demand of new building.

This Historical opportunity of constructing a new building of Parliament has been assigned to TATA Group for ₹ 861 crores 90 lakhs. TATA won this ₹ competition against its close competitor Larsen & Toubro who demanded ₹ 865 crores.

As far as the design is concerned, the Union Minister of Urban and Housing Development, Mr. Hardeep Singh Puri says that out of 27 applications, 6 were shortlisted and among those 6 the work was assigned to the architect Bimal Patel, the Padma Shree award winner.

Just like any other great projects in India, criticism were associated with the name of this project also. Some environmentalist complained of environment, while some called it Narendra Modi’s dream project, some said unnecessary expense, while others complained of old building.

In my opinion, when we talk of national issues like Parliament, the authorities are themselves are aware of the environment, they will definitely arrange a close alternative of it. As far as the issue of building is concerned, it will be turned into a museum which will further generate some revenue for the infrastructure. So let’s wait for for upcoming dream project of every Indian.
