The people of Karimganj district of Assam woke up with a disturbing rather shocking news of a brutal incident of gangrape on Saturday, 14th November. Six Muslim men, Ahad Hussain, Anwar Hussain, Suman Ali, Samsul Uddin, Abu Bakkar, and Amir Ali raped two Hindu women on Friday night. They were returning their home state Tripura after paying a visit to the ailing mother of one victim. She is fighting cancer and undergoing treatment in Cachar Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Silchar. The two victims hired a taxi from the Silchar to return Tripura.

After crossing the Karimganj town, the driver took them to an under-construction building where four other men were already waiting. There was another person in the car apart from the driver and the victims. The six offenders raped the two women in turn throughout the night. The culprits also snatched the money, mobile phones and other belongings from the victims and fled at the dead of night.

The two women then managed to leave the spot and reached the nearby police station to report the incident. The police came into action quickly and nabbed five accused immediately while the hunt is going on to catch the sixth criminal. The two victims have been sent to the Silchar medical college for examination.

In recent times, there has been a series of rape incidents reported where Muslim men targeted Hindu women. It seems they have been doing it in a planned manner and targeting Hindu girls and women. There is silence in national media, especially the TV channels which spend hours debating and reporting if the victim is from the minority community. But if the victim is a Hindu, they will choose to ignore it deliberately. Not only that, no political parties, bollywood actors, especially those who claim to be secular, have not uttered a single word on this horrific gangrape.
