The defence research and development organization (DRDO) is an agency under the Department of Defense Research and Development in the Ministry of defence of the Government of India, charged with the military’s research and development, headquartered in Delhi, India. It was formed in 1958 by the merger of the Technical Development Establishment and the Directorate of Technical Development and Production of the Indian ordnance factories with the Defense Science Organization.

Given below are the works and achievements of DRDO in past two years:

  1. Successfully tested the long-range surface-to-air missile developed jointly with Israel.
  2. Development and acquisition of MILAN-2T anti-tank missiles
  3. Successfully tested two indigenously developed quick reaction surface to air missiles.
  4. DRDO developed a range of combat casualty drugs. These drugs help to regain the strength of the injured soldier till he is shifted to the hospital.
  5. Successfully test-fired indigenous man-portable anti-tank guided missiles.
  6. Mission Shakti: Successfully test-fired anti-satellite missile by shooting down a live satellite.
  7. The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has successfully launched an electronic intelligence satellite ‘EMISAT’ for the Defense Research Development Organization (DRDO) along with 28 third party satellites.
  8. The Indian Navy launched the fourth Stealth Scorpene Class submarine ‘INS Vela’ at state-owned Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
  9. The Anti-ship version of supersonic cruise missile BrahMos was test-fired from the launch complex-3 of Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur in Odisha.
  10. An upgraded version of the existing surface to air missile, Akash, AKASH-MK-1S was successfully tested by DRDO in Odisha. It is known to neutralize advanced aerial targets.
  11. Enhancing its anti-air warfare capabilities, The Indian Navy successfully conducted test firing of Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) on the Western Seaboard.
  12. A High-speed Expendable Aerial Target (HEAT), namely ABHYAS was successfully tested by DRDO.
  13. The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) conducted a successful first test flight of the indigenously developed Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle (HSTDV). India is the only country after the US, Russia and China to own this technology.
  14. 3 successive Nag missiles, an anti-tank guided missile system were test-fired and hit their targets precisely at the Pokhran Firing range.
  15. The advanced towed artillery gun system (ATAGS) is a 155mm, 52 calibre gun that is being developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) in two separate collaborations with Tata Power’s Strategic Engineering Division and the Bharat Forge. The same is yet to be tested and is a competitor to Israeli ‘ATHOS’.
  16. DRDO successfully tested Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle (HSTDV) making India the only country after the US, Russia and China to own this critical technology.
  17. DRDO developed a new mobile metallic ramp, which makes the transportation of armoured vehicles like a tank, etc. easy at undesirable terrain. It will make transportation fast which in turn, will be beneficial in crucial times like war.
  18. DRDO increased the range of fully indigenously developed ASTRA air-to-air missile (comes under BMD — Ballistics Missile Defense programme) to double.
  19. The first night trial in the country, conducted for AGNI 2 was successfully accomplished by DRDO.
  20. Another night trial was also made done for nuclear-capable PRITHVI 2 missile by DRDO.
  21. Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile (QRSAM) was successfully flight-tested from the Integrated Test Range(ITR), Chandipur in Odisha by DRDO.
  22. The Pinaka MK-II with a high precision striking range of up to 75 Kilometers into the enemy territory was successfully flight-tested. It is being developed jointly by TATAs, L&T and DRDO.
  23. Ballistic missile K-4 was successfully tested from a submerged pontoon off the Vishakhapatnam coast. The nuclear-capable missile having a range of 3,500 Km is made indigenously especially for Arihant class submarines.
  24. A new explosive detection device, Raider-X was developed by IISc and DRDO in a joint project. It has several new features like those of detecting home developed explosives made from gelatin sticks and petrol.
  25. An upgraded version of Sharang artillery gun with improvised shell size and the range was successfully tested and have been inducted into the Indian Army.
  26. DRDO developed several sanitization equipments like bio suits and disinfectant sprayers to fight Covid-19.
  27. DRDO developed ATULYA, a microwave sterilizer to disintegrate the Covid-19 virus.
  28. Indian Navy inducted indigenously developed MAREECH, an advanced torpedo decoy system. Developed by DRDO it is capable of detecting, locating and neutralizing incoming torpedo.
  29. In of its routine exercises, the Indian Army successfully tested Prithvi 2 missiles developed indigenously by DRDO, it has a range of 350 Km.
  30. DRDO developed RUSTOM 2 Drone was successfully tested in September 2020
  31. India test-fired the new generation anti-radiation missile called Rudram 1. The Missile has been generated to kill enemy radar. The Rudram missile can be launched from Sukhoi 30MKI fighter jets. It has a speed of 2 mach.
  32. Test fire of new version and nuclear-capable Shaurya missile was successful.
  33. On October 22, 2020, the anti-tank missile Nag successfully passed the final trials of DRDO. The missile is to enter production
  34. On October 18, 2020, the DRDO test-fired the naval version of the BRAHMOS missile from INS Chennai successfully.
  35. A ship-launched electrically-propelled heavyweight anti-submarine torpedo that is capable of targeting quiet submarines, Varunastra was successfully tested.
  36. The DRDO has developed a fire detection and suppression system for passenger buses. The technology can detect fire in buses in less than 30 seconds. Also, it can extinguish the fire in 60 Seconds
  37. Astra Mk-1 Missiles, IMSAS and BOSS system developed by DRDO were handed over to chiefs of defence forces (Navy, Army and Air Force) by defence minister Rajnath Singh to strengthen the forces.
  38. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh recently inaugurated the Advanced Hypersonic Wind Tunnel test facility in Hyderabad.
  39. An upgraded version of SAHAYAK-Mk, The SAHAYAK-NG, an air-droppable container was tested successfully by the Defense Ministry. It is the first indigenously developed air-droppable container and comes with several features.
  40. DRDO has recently developed a Supplemental Oxygen Delivery System. It is to be used for soldiers posted at extreme high-altitude areas.
  41. A long-range precision-guided anti-airfield weapon, SAAW (Smart Anti Airfield Weapon) was tested from Hawk aircraft successfully. SAAW is developed by DRDO. SAAW is the first smart weapon fired from an Indian Hawk.
  42. DRDO recently developed the Retractable Landing Gear System for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, TAPAS.
  43. The DRDO recently developed the Single Crystal Blade Technology. It is to be used in helicopters to prevent corrosion and extended life. India is the only country after the UK, the USA, Russia and France to own this technology.
  44. The DRDO successfully tested Derby missiles and the Python missiles. The missiles were test-fired in Goa and achieved 100% hit.
  45. DRDO developed and successfully launched the first batch of 2-DG Drugs. It was developed in collaboration with Dr Reddy’s Laboratories.
  46. DRDO recently announced Dipcovan or DIPAS-VDX COVID 19 IgG Antibody Microwell ELISA, which is an antibody detection-based kit that is to be used for sero-surveillance for detecting the presence of Covid antibodies amongst the population.
