Gavi is an international organization which was created in 2000 to improve access to new and underused vaccines for children living in the world’s poorest countries. The failed, Islamic Republic of Pakistan is one such poor country which naturally qualifies for donated vaccines.
Gavi’s partners are the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, the World Bank, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and big pharma companies and these organizations are set up to hep the poor around the world. Thus, Pakistan naturally qualifies.
Pakistan is supposed to receive 45 million India-made doses of the COVID-19 vaccine soon. The Federal Secretary National Health Services, Regulation, and Coordination -Aamir Ashraf Khawaja indicated that the delivery of India-made vaccines under the Gavi arrangement will begin arriving this month.
However, Khawja does not seem sure which vaccine will be donated by India yet. It will most likely be the one produced by the Serum Institute of India (SII) because they have a signed agreement with the Gavi Alliance.
As they say, beggars can’t be choosers.
