The incident took place at Maruthuvambadi village in Thiruvannamalai. About 3,000 Hindu families live in the area. Many students from here study in the school. The parents of the students studying here were asked to convert by the church priest. But the parents said they did not agree. The students were subsequently expelled from the school. The road near it was closed by a wall led by a priest. This made it difficult for families to get to the main road.
Hindu families approached the panchayat with a complaint over the incident. The priest replied that the place where the wall was built belonged to the church and that it could not be given away. But locals say it has been used publicly for the past 100 years. The families have lodged a complaint with the Collector against the Catholic Church in the incident.
