In light of the political unrest in Maharashtra, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoned Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Tuesday in connection with the Pravin Raut and Patra Chawl land scam case. ED had previously attached several of his properties.

Earlier, in the Rs 1,034 crore Patra Chawl land scam case, the ED had also attached assets worth Rs 2 crore from Sanjay Raut’s wife Varsha and Rs 9 crore in value from his ‘aide’ Pravin Raut.

In a case involving Pravin Raut and money laundering, the financial watchdog had submitted a charge sheet.

In February, ED investigators looking into the Patra Chawl land scam case discovered that Pravin Raut had transferred Rs 55 lakh to Varsha through his wife’s account using the proceeds of crime. Additionally, according to the ED, Sanjay Raut and those connected to him had hotel rooms and travel arrangements made for both domestic and overseas trips.

Eknath Shinde, the head of the Shiv Sena, has been camped out in a hotel in Guwahati with other MLAs throughout the ongoing political turmoil in Maharashtra.
