Samajwadi Party tried hard to get Dalit votes in the 2019 election after making alliance with BSP and RLD, but Dalits rejected Samajwadi Party. Bhim Army chief, Azad is fighting from Gorakhpur which may be a kind of hidden alliance between SP and Bhim Army because Akhilesh was uncomfortable when EX IPS officer Aseem Arun who is from Jatav Dalit community joined the BJP.
However, Azad is not a kind of threat to Yogi as Azad is desperate to capture the legacy of Mayawati mainly Jatav Dalits. Azad tried hard to replace BSP but Dalits are still intact with Mayawati. In Uttar Pradesh, during 2014, 2017 and 2019 elections Dalit voter were divided between BSP and BJP. Jatav voters in the majority voted for BSP and in some areas for BJP, while the non-Jatav generally inclined towards Modi because of various grass root schemes and voted en mass for NDA coalition.
Asim Arun is an Ex IPS officer, who took VRS and joined BJP and is fighting elections on BJP’s ticket. His father was also an IAS officer whereas Asim was Police Commissioner of Kanpur.
Asim belongs to the Jatav Dalit community.
During interaction with the media, he said that he has joined BJP because of policies which are related to Garib Junta and the improved law and order under Yogi administration, are the key factors why he decided to join the BJP. He is from Kannauj, which is a mainland of Akhilesh Yadav. In 2019, Dimple Yadav had lost the elections from Kannauj.
Akhilesh Yadav had attacked Asim Arun in the past and had blamed that Arun helped BJP during Panchayat Polls which were held in 2021, when the second wave of COVID-19 was at its peak. One interesting development took place when Asim Arun joined BJP. Suddenly Chandrashekhar Azad announced he will fight against Yogi Adityanath from Gorakhpur, which was a ploy from him to consolidate his weaning flock amongst the Dalits, who is desperate to capture the legacy of Mayawati mainly Jatav Dalits.
