In DMK ruled Tamil Nadu, it is now a crime to fly a Saffron flag in front of your house. Whereas, abusing Skanda stotras by the DMK/DK group is considered rationalism and freedom of expression.

In Tenkasi, literally the Southern Kashi, a Hindu family was threatened by the Police to remove a Saffron flag put up on a wall in front of their house. According to local reports, the wall in front of the Hindu family’s house was later demolished under the supervision of the Police by claiming that it was illegal. It is said that ironically, the demolition was carried out on a complaint by an adjacent Church which is built on encroached public land.

A viral video of a policeman threatening to foist false charges on a old Hindu lady (around 70 years old) if she does not remove a saffron flag fluttering on a wall in front of her house. The old Hindu woman can be clearly heard telling the police that, “Can’t you see the huge illegal Church structure built just adjacent, but have problems with a single wall being constructed in front of our house because we fly the Saffron flag”. The policeman then threatens to file cases against her and arrest her if she does not comply.

The said incident reportedly occurred four days back in Pulavanoor village in Tenkasi district, Tamil Nadu. The Hindu Munnani activists have been complaining against a illegal Church built on public land to the authorities for over six months.

The police has been reportedly troubling the Hindu Munnani activists and the Hindu family which lives adjacent to the Church since then. The Hindu family living adjacent to the Church claims that their auto and house was vandalised few weeks back by a mob driven by the Church.

Notably, the situation has become tense in Tenkasi after the police demolished the wall of the Hindu family adjoining the Church. The Hindu Munnani activists and other locals staged sit in protests till the police demolishes the illegal Church built on public land.

The Hindu Munnani activists point out the double standards of the police under DMK rule, by arguing if a single wall constructed by a Hindu family is said to be an illegal construction and demolished by the police, how is it that the police ignores a whole Church standing on public land.

The Hindu Munnani therefore alleged that the police was just acting like a front for the Church rather than following the law of the land evenly.

The police department coming under severe criticism and facing protest has been forced to take action against the illegal Church building after more than six months. The illegal Church was finally demolished yesterday (30.07.2021) due to intense protests and outrage by local villagers and Hindu Munnani.
